The informal polls I ran when I was considering self-publishing a few months back asked potential readers if they would consider buying an e-book for a couple of bucks as opposed to a hardcopy for $15. Almost everyone I heard from said that they would rather spend the $15 than read a book on their computer or an e-book reader.
Back in the nineties, techno-gurus were predicting the demise of the printed book by now. They greatly underestimated the book afficianado's love of the bound volume.
I think as the technology continues to drop in price and easily portable readers become more available and affordable, we'll see e-books becoming a respectable market share of books sold. For now, though, my own inclination would be to offer the e-book along with a print volume, and not hold a lot of hopes for great sales in the e-book department.
Edit:
This was post # 2000. Wow.
