Les Miserables

I've just seen the wonderful movie 'Les Miserables'. I highly recommend it. I already loved the musical and the songs from that and this movie is very good indeed. If you don't know the story of 'Les Miserables' and haven't seen the musical, just let me say that it has a wonderful message of redemption and forgiveness and of God's forgiveness.The songs are beautiful and powerful poetry to music. It's presents some challenges to one's thinking and is a movie worth discussion and thought. If you go, take some tissues or hankies!

I pride myself in having read a lot of the classics and at least being aware of what they are about, and yet I've never seen or read anything of Les Miserables. I plan to rectify that and see this one, at least on DVD if not in the theater. Thanks for the recommendation!

I saw this last week. I've heard of the book (and musical production), of course, but have never read this classic. I heard wonderful things about the movie, and I knew I wanted to see it.

The movie itself was not my typical cup of tea. While I love musicals, I prefer more contemporary (like Hairspray and Mamma Mia LoL), rather than 18th century, particularly set in a foreign country. That said, the acting was superb, and I found myself loving the songs.

The best part was the beautiful story of redemption. That is something that will stay with me for a long time. It is a long movie, and at times moved a little slowly for me, but it certainly was never what I consider boring. Les Mis offers so much food for thought, is a stunning parallel of Christ's love for us, and I strongly recommend it. I hope this film ends up with a couple of Oscars to add to its name.

I've yet to read the book or see the show/movie. However, I'm overly familiar with the music. As it came out while I was in college, people were singing the music from it all the time lol. I feel like I've seen it I'll probably wait and catch it on Netflix.

I've also seen the Animaniacs take on it... Les Miseranimals (11 minutes - but worth it )

I read Les Miserables when I was fourteen/fifteen (yeah, took me awhile) and it became one of my greatest favourites. (Along with A Tale of Two Cities, which I read around the same time.) It is amazing, but really, really, really long. Most people who read it get fed up with Waterloo. And everyone who has ever read it knows exactly what they mean.
