Arpy wrote:Actually, I watched Warhorse recently, expecting it to be quite violent and really realistic. I was surprised at the lack of violence. (Maybe some people would call it violent, but you hardly saw anyone get shot.) I wondered why this was so. I don't particularly like violence, but I expected a movie about the First World War to be more intense.

Warhorse, in my opinion, was a story about a horse who survived a war. The war was the setting, not what the story was about, therefore shooting could not be the focus or it would detract from the storyline.

I've seen commercials for the stage version of Warhorse; the puppetry of the horse is totally engrossing.

I really liked Warhorse, anyway. I very much enjoy British movies, especially the humour, but I find it can get a little bit too dry sometimes. (Rarely). British movies seem and are said to have a lot more language. (Over here, the b--y word is right out.) I don't think there's that much difference between the general British film and the general American film in regards to sx, but I do think American films are loud -- too loud, sometimes. (I'm comparing kid movies like Tintin and Ratatouille but I think Arthur Christmas was just as loud as Toy Story or Despicable Me) That is loud in terms of lots of shouting and screaming and noise-making. I don't know if kiwigirl meant something else.

And P.S. kiwi old girl -- the Yankee gun lobby is not all that powerful; except in redneck backwoods, Texas (do I repeat myself?) and among the elite few (like yours truly) who love a SIG Sauer mostly for its aesthetic value. (And the bang it makes when it goes off. . .)

Thought some of you might like to read this article. It's pretty tough on some of us Americans, though.

To have tea at the Coach&Horses in northern VA!
Owner is Scotch, and was quite pleased at how much tea my eleven-year-old sister can drink.

I'm still wondering where everyone else went. . .
