Hi all, and Happy New Year!

I do surveys for 5 different sites, and today I was just going over my accounts. One of them, my Harris Poll account, has 5576 points in it; I was looking over the folios of goodies I could get with the points I've earned, and I found I could get a $35 Amazon.com gift certificate, two entries for a chance to win $10,000, and have 176 points left over. I checked the Amazon site to see if they have a copy of the 2010 Christian Writers Market Guide, and one person, though out of stock, is selling them for $16.49 each, free shipping on orders $25 and up; another is selling them for $23.56 with $3.99 shipping.

I can either get that gift certificate and buy myself one copy and have $7 left from the second seller, or I was thinking I could buy two copies from the first seller, and bless someone with the other. Anyone want to do this? Maybe I could give someone the other Market Guide in exchange for editing or a year of 500 membership. Or if they're in SoCal, in or reasonable close to Orange County, maybe we could barter the extra copy for a new or slightly used desk chair (mine is literally falling to pieces), or computer work, meaning helping with data recovery, making recovery disks, and installing a new hard drive I have. Or whatever. Anyone interested, PM me.

Is it just me and my neighborhood, or do the JWs (Jehovah's Witnesses) come out of hibernation at this time? Yesterday there were two women at the door, I saw them coming but didn't answer. Today I didn't quite see who came to the door until I got there. However, God took over, I pretended not to speak English (gotta love the gift of speaking in tongues!), so got rid of him in short order.

Seriously, I can't believe these people. According to my Christianity, Cults and Religions poster, the JWs believe that only 144,000 will be saved, and this number has been reached. I say, why bother? Either you're saved or not. I have discovered that they are also lacking in intelligence--one guy I tried to tell he was preaching to the choir didn't know what that phrase meant. He used the excuse that he was from Texas originally (no accent though), which I found strange because as we know, Texas is part of the Bible Belt. That phrase should've been familiar to him. I can't really say I've been to Texas, but I'm sure those of us here on FW who are Texans by birth or residence are not happy with this guy's statement.

The dude at the door today was wearing a fedora that was too small for his head, and I frankly haven't seen one of those since the Kennedy administration. A lot of these people have no style. Why anyone would want to become one if they aren't smart, dress in outdated styles, and go around bothering people when they can't get saved according to their doctrine is beyond me.

Anyone care to share their JW encounter stories?

Oh, and good morning, everyone.

Actually, as far as the fedora is concerned, my 16 year old son wants one. A couple of his friends from church already have them. So do quite a few singers, etc... both secular (which he doesn't really listen to), and also some of the younger Christian rock / rap guys.

As with most things, give it long enough and just about everything comes back! :)

A friend of mine and her mother were having coffee one day at her mother's house. Two JWs rang the doorbell rather early on a Saturday morning. My friend's mom answered the door in her bathrobe and curlers, knowing full well who was there and what they were up to. She invited them in under the guise of allowing them to lay their spiel out, but right after they sat down she said, let me tell you about MY religion.
They couldn't get out the door fast enough. I don't believe they ever stopped at her house again (if they were smart.) :P

And Deejay, you're so right about the clothes.

They've come parading through my neighborhood a few times, but I saw them coming and simply would not answer the door. The dead give away is that they're always in pairs, and one is usually carrying a briefcase.
They remind me of srewy detective teams trying to conduct really poor interrogations. :P
