One of the resident cats over at Isaiah House , an orange tabby named Nicholas, has had a cherry-sized cyst on the right side of his head. We had been concerned about it for at least a year or more.
Nicholas likes to come over to the house to be petted, so finally yesterday afternoon I got a paper towel and a pin, got ahold of him and jabbed the pin into the cyst to drain it. At first, some clear yellow serum came out, but as I squeezed, it became evident that there was a solid mass inside. So after several more jabs with the pin, I finally was able to squeeze out quite a bit of thick white sebaceous material. Finally, I was able to pull the sac itself out. I put some triple antibiotic salve on it, and Nick (I sometimes call him Nick-A-Doo) is very happy. I put more salve on it this morning, and Nick is a little leery of my touching it, but I plan on putting the salve on until it heals up completely. Nick was pretty good despite some struggling, and I gave him a handful of kitty treats afterward.
I put the sebaceous material and the cyst sac in a tiny jar filled with some witch hazel I had, and my roommates C.J. and Diane are going to show it to Leigha next door (Leigha and her husband Dwight run Isaiah House). Wonder if Leigha will get grossed out?
