So, that's why we haven't seen you around these parts for a few days, Don. You've been out with the posse gettin' after those kids. :P Maybe you can just string 'em up by their toes and give them something to think about for awhile. Sorry you're having one of those days! I imagine most parents do, from time to time (although I must admit my kids are perfect - but, I can't claim they take after me, because I did nothing to produce them; I just get to enjoy them) .

I have days when I wish one of my roommates would get a bad case of laryngitis--this morning, without explanation, she handed me a roll of toilet paper, saying it was soft enough for my nose. What is she getting at? I have tons of tissue packs. Maybe someone caught me removing a stubborn dry booger and complained? Hey, everyone does that. Some stuff just won't come out by blowing.
Seriously, people who live together should learn to accept each others' little habits and idiocyncrasies.(sp?)

With just a little bit more rain in my corner of the world, I could drop a fishing line off the edge of my deck and catch me some walleyes. Wow!!! How cool would that be?

Also, I should tie a rope from the front of my house to a sturdy tree. I wouldn’t want my beached “houseboat” to float away, ya know. But then, that would give a whole new meaning to the term, “living on the lake.”

Just think…my address would change every time the wind shifted direction. It would drive the mail-delivery-guy crazy trying to find my house.

Uff da, Don! I hope your back yard doesn't wash away like that $700,000 house yard that was in the news!

While I would always avoid living near a river, like the Red River on the MN-ND border that overflows its banks something fierce, every once in awhile, or even the Mississippi that has been known to flood the lower old town of Hastings, I figured lakes were safe. That is until we took a trip back to our old stamping grounds in North Dakota and saw what had happened to Devils Lake after seven years of heavy rains. Uff da, again!

...An increase in precipitation between 1993 and 1999 caused the lake to double in size, forcing the displacement of over 300 homes and flooding 70,000 acres (280 km2) of farmland.[8] Attempts to mitigate the flooding have reportedly cost North Dakota and the U.S. government more than $450 million. Efforts to control flooding include dike construction and moving railroad lines, roads, and power lines.... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devils_Lake_(North_Dakota) [9]

It was the weirdest sensation, driving as if across an ocean. Water turned farmsteads into islands, and the raised roads had water lapping against them...and across them at some points, like at the beach.

I was just makin' a funny. The lake is about 100' from my back door. The water level would need to rise at least 8'-10' to get there, but that is nearly impossible because of the creek outlet. It would flood half of Wisconsin before it flooded my house.

With the heavy rains we have had recently, I feel like I am living inside a submerged box on the bottom of the ocean.

This morning I looked out through the portholes, err...windows, and when lightning lit up the surrounding area, I think I saw two big sharks cruising by, and the rotted remains of an old sunken Viking ship.

Rain, rain...go away! Enough already!!!

Verna, I'm so glad the worst seems to be over regarding your surgery. Have you been able to get out at all, like to church or to a restaurant, etc? It's great that the doctor didn't make you go to rehab for 2 or 3 weeks. When my sister went to rehab after her hip surgery, she picked up 5 different bugs, including the dreaded MRSA virus. Instead of the 2 weeks she was supposed to be in rehab, she ended up being there 9 weeks! Finally, she just flatly said she was going home one day or she knew she would die there in rehab. The staff at rehab were largely from eastern Europe and thought washing their hands before treating each patient was a waste of time and they ignored most of the other safety regulations, too. Of course, not every rehab is that way but she happened to be assigned to one way below standard.

It's chocolate chip cookie time! Charles is pulling on my shirt trying to get me into the kitchen. He loves those cookies so much!

I bet you all will enjoy this link of perfectly timed photos: http://allperfectlytimed.com/oops-she-f ... the-ledge/ Click on the right blue arrow to go to the next picture.

Later, y'all

I'm with you, Don, praying the rain will cease, in the words of Jesus: "peace be still!"

We have had a wonderfully dry basement for years, since we replaced all our gutters with Rainhandlers, etc. But, this morning, after a night of continuous booms of thunder (obvious even with fans muffling the noise), my fears are realized.

When rainfall saturates the ground so much that water seeps up around the support posts in the basement, I know our house must be sitting in an underground lake. Our floor is wet, trickling across the floor to the drain from more than the north and south run-off from the roof. I'm so glad we have an unfinished basement!

My heart certainly goes out to others who have the devastating experience of floods and more!

Don, I hope the sunshine I tried to send you got there!

Edy, thanks for caring! I gave up my pain pills (except for Tylenol) the first week home and put away my walker the second. I have one more shot after today to put in my stomach to prevent blood clots. Yesterday was two weeks plus one day past surgery, and I went out to breakfast and to the grocery store. (The cart makes a great walker!) My hip and leg are still painful and achy and swollen, and I'm not ready to run any marathons or even walk around the block yet, but God has been so good to allow healing to take place. If you have a recommendation for swollen ankle and foot besides putting it up and using ice, I welcome it. My instructions from the doctor say that could last several months. I have been blessed with a wonderfully patient and kind husband! I am so thankful for every blessing.

Mariane, I expect people are piling onto your beach and enjoying the ocean. I hope this summer is going well for you!

Hope all on the porch have some sunshine and a cool breeze and feel blessed by the presence of God today.

Yes, Verna, it did arrive. I think it showed up just before noon. However, I hear it will be leaving in a few hours to let the rain clouds in again. :?

In case you'd like a look at what's happening in our neck of the woods, here goes:
[edit: forgot to mention that we live across the river and down a ways from that U of MN hospital mudslide]
http://www.mprnews.org/story/2014/06/19 ... -the-state

Scroll down to nearly the bottom of the page to see what Minnehaha Falls looks like (on Minnehaha CREEK). I've been there when it looked "normal," and also during a dry spell when barely a trickle made it over the Falls. This is a gusher year! Also check out the photo of my favorite part of Minnehaha Park, the statue of Hiawatha carrying Minnehaha across the creek (sculptor's illustration from Longfellow's poem).

I guess Minnesota isn't dubbed the Land of 10,000 lakes for nothing!

The lake I live on, Lotus Lake in Chanhassen, MN, was declared at a all-time record high level yesterday. They are enforcing a no-wake zone for the entire lake. My dock is under water, and about a third of my back yard is now part of the lake. Almost everyone's shoreline has significant damage.

My sister lives on Lake Pulaski in Wright county. She told me their dock was under water and had been ripped in half from the heavy wave action. She called their dock guys and had them remove it -- for the season. She said, "Enough is enough. We'll try to enjoy the lake next summer."

Hi Carole ! Good to see you. We're all taking our summer vacations very seriously by lying on the beach, fishing in our lakes, swimming in our pools, sipping iced tea on our decks and generally being lazy. We've got until Labor Day to baby ourselves and we love every minute of it.

Did I just say all that? LOL
