Edy, what a darling she is! I'd like to hug her. At first glance, I thought she was wearing oven mits! So adorable! :loveyou

She reminded me of my pediatrician's story about his little girl. He lived next door to the largest, most ornate and beautiful church in town, so when the family was ready to leave for church, his little daughter told them all to go on ahead and she would be over in a minute; she'd forgotten something. That was many years ago so it was considered safe back then to go on ahead. They were already seated in their 3rd-row-from-the-pulpit pew when they heard laughter, so they turned around and there coming down the center aisle holding the hand of an usher was their daughter, dressed for church wearing her mother's girdle over her skirt, carrying her mother's purse, her hat with feathers and semi-high heels. She had pearls and necklaces draped around her neck, clip-on earrings, and as many bracelets as would fit on both arms. As she walked slowly down the long center aisle, she was playing with one of the girdle snaps that were used to hold up stockings in those days. Dr. Aderholt said by the time she reached the front, the whole church was in screaming laughter, so to save her embarrassment, he got up, swooped her up in his arms, and together they smiled and waved vigorously at the thousand worshipers in attendance.

Now, how would you like to be the minister trying to follow THAT act ??? You can see why he was the most popular pediatrician in town.
:superhappy :clap

Oh, BeachGrandma, you need to write a screenplay. If Duck Dynasty is so popular, imagine what a "sit-com" of a church with such unscheduled interruptions would do in the ratings. I know you have more such true stories in your portfolio. You would help educate the world that Christians aren't "terrorists" after all, in spite of what the administration thinks of us.

I can just see the scene as if I were watching a video. How hilarious!

Are there any Duck Dynasty watchers here?

I've watched it a few times, but those guys are crazy!

By the way, tomorrow morning I expect to see minus 30 degrees air temp on my thermometer. I've never seen so much serious, life-threatening winter weather over such a large portion of the country. Anyone have any thoughts?

Northern polar cap has frozen over after seasons of melt down. I guess the cycle is at the coldest and it's filtering southward with the wind direction. I would guess that your summer will be at the coolest end of the cycle. It will all catch up on itself one day.

We're having the hottest summer but not necessarily on record. The southern ice cape has been at it's warmest and also restarted it's natural cycle. If we didn't have a natural cycle and the world stayed the same decade after decade, life wouldn't continue it's cycle.

I'm so glad we don't live on Mars. The cycle there stopped a long time ago.

Hang in there Don. Life goes on while there's a cycle.

At 7:30pm my deck thermometer showed minus 21 degrees F. I'm quite sure it will be minus 30-35 by morning. With some wind to go along with that, that's nasty stuff!

My house has two furnaces to heat the house, plus a gas fireplace in the main bedroom. There is also a wood burning fireplace in the family room should that be needed. Right now it's very comfy in the house, and should stay that way.

Those trying to compete for the title of "Minnesota's hardiest" already have the title of "Minnesota's dumbest".

My most trusted and dependable deck thermometer tells me it’s 30 below zero. *yikes*
The other two thermometers out there tell me it’s way too cold and they refuse to work this morning. Wow…30 below zero! The cooling breezes off my lake probably caused that to happen, ya think?

I'm surprised that lakes haven't frozen over. I haven't researched this, but Lake Superior is fresh water, not salt, so you'd think it could freeze. But, according to the link, it was still a "warm" 38 degrees, even though air temp was minus 13.

But, you should see the waves frozen up the rocks to my brother's deck. I'm sure if penguins were around, they would love using those icy cascades for slides.

By the way, for birds that don't fly south for the winter, how on earth do they survive? My mom used to recite a poem for us when we were little. Only snatches of it remain accessible in my memory. Anybody recognize these lines?

...and what will robin do then, poor thing?
She'll hide in the barn, to keep herself warm, and hide her head under her wing, poor thing.

I don't know why Lake Superior doesn't totally freeze over. Portions of it do freeze. Maybe most of its water temperature is stuck at 38 or 39 degrees year around. Do the other Great Lakes completely freeze over?

I have waded in Lake Superior in the summer and it felt like wading in ice cubes. Feet feel numb in only a few minutes time.

By the way...how do snow birds survive in the summer?

This is a spooky, true story I've never told here before.

One summer day a few years ago I looked out through my rear patio door toward the lake . I saw some guy tieing his boat up to my dock. I thought, "Whoa! What's up with that?"

I hurried out to my dock and asked, "Hi there. Can I help you?"

The man replied, "Are you Greg Xxxxxx?"

I answered, "No, I'm not."

He finished securing his boat, then asked, "Do you know where I can find him?"

This was beginning to look a little strange to me. I said, "No."

After looking at me for a moment, he asked if I knew Greg.

I told the man, "I've never heard of Greg. By the way, who are you?"

He told me he was a private investigator, and needed to speak with Greg. Then he said, "Are you sure he isn't here? I was told Greg could be found at the blue and white house on the lake - the one with a smiley face windsock on the dock. Your house is the only one matching that description. Greg must be here."

At that point I began to untie his boat from my dock while saying, "I'm sorry, but Greg is not here. I don't even know him. Somebody gave you some bad information."

The stranger got into his boat and left. Then, I began to mow my back yard and trim some bushes.

For at least the next hour the investigator cruised slowly back and forth near my lakeshore closely watching me and my house. He wasn't convinced.

I finished my work and went back into the house. The man eventually left and I never saw him again. I felt like I was guilty of harboring a criminal that day.

That's spooky, Don! I wonder if it was Greg, himself, that gave the investigator the details of your property.

My only experience with an investigator was a man who came to my door, asking about a neighbor down the block from my house. This was back when I had a full time civilian job plus a heavy load of responsibility in my army reserve unit. So, I didn't have much time for interacting with my neighborhood. When I came home, I only wanted to crash.

Anyway, as I recall, the man claimed he was some type of federal investigator. When I told him I knew nothing about the house in question, he looked at me like I was a nut and said, "How long have you lived here, anyway?"

If I have a pet peeve, it would be people presuming to know more about how I should be living my life than I do! Uff da!

Now for something cute - actually rather stunning:

But...why would Greg himself pay an investigator good money to have him sent my way...looking for "Greg"? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Maybe the investigator was sent to scope out me and my back yard using the "Greg" story as an excuse.

Maybe Greg thought I had some dirt on him, and Greg sent the investigator to find out what I knew.

Maybe someone was trying to pin something on me. (It wouldn't be the first time)

Maybe the investigator was not a real investigator. I didn't ask for any I.D. (That was dumb of me)

Someone did some surveillance work (only done from the lakeside) to be able to describe my property to the investigator, but why?

:?:
