It's about 10 below zero right now (the wind chill temp is worse), and I will be headed to the grocery store soon.

Hmmm...maybe their frozen food section will be outside today.

This week we experienced temperatures to 40 degrees Centigrade. Icecream melts the moment it's out of the freezer needing a straw to consume. ;) Today is a little cooler thankfully.

Been gone all day...funeral for Howard's cousin this morning, long drive with a long caravan of cars to the burial site up in Mahtomedi (suburb north of our twin city St. Paul), back to church for a meal and visiting with extended family. Some of you may be familiar with Bill Gothard of the long time Basic Youth Conflicts seminars (now IBLP - Institute in Basic Life Principles). He was one of several speakers at the funeral service (he and Roger had worked together developing a Christian law school primarily for homeschoolers finishing the IBLP curriculum).

As you might expect, an emotional time. He and his wife had been married only 31 years (Roger married late, his education and career well established before he began his family life), so their eight children are still quite young, only two of them married, so far.

Then we came home to grab a couple gifts, check the mail, etc., and we were off, running late to another family early-Christmas gathering.

I'm bushed! :sleep

I watched it and thought it was wonderful. It's not supposed to be compared to Julie Andrews' movie, as it's the stage play version, that the movie adapted to the movie format, but taking out songs and move some around. They did it live that night, after about a month's rehearsals (watch the making of special that was on Hulu). They did a great job and I plan on getting the DVD.

I was remembering our local theater's performance that I got to play in the pits for years ago.

I don't know who is more unappetizing: Barbara Walters or the atheists. Barbara needs to reread her history books about the Christian principles this country was founded upon and quit trying to rewrite history.

My son, Johnny, directs 25,000 kids to D.C. every year for their school trips. He emailed me yesterdau," I dropped one of my groups of 5th graders off at the National Air & Space Museum on Tuesday and a flash mob broke out as soon as they entered the building. Look for our group of kids and teachers in the orange shirts.

In the comment section below the link, a couple of people were angry that government resources were being used to push the "myth" of Christmas. So, a dear, dear Jewish man posted a reply which is so classic that I wanted to crawl through my computer screen and hug him. He said:

"Let me add a Jewish vote in favor of the band singing that lyric. Culturally our nation is Christian in origin, and forbidding our institutions from continuing or participating in musical or other traditions that are part of Christian culture would be a kind of Stalinist revisionism. Also in the health of American Christianity lies the security of American Jewry.
Very moving performance."

Our tree is so pathetic this year but I will take a pic of our outside Christmas lights as soon as the roof painter has finished making a mess. It's the first week in a six weeks were there is no rain on the radar and although I love a good rain, we need at least 4 days of no rain for the roof to be painted and dried.

So, maybe next week I'll have a pic or 2 to post.

Good job showing the picture of the dozen happy face cookies she baked!

I wonder how they baked so uniform in shape. Maybe I need a new oven.

Mariane, I read the comment the Jewish man made about the flash mob. Good for him!

It's still cold here, but our ice and snow are gone. Yea!

I will post a pic of our tree soon. Will also post some of my Christmas baking projects when I get them done, but that probably wont' be for a couple of weeks or so. Everyone is invited to my house to help us eat them.

Speaking of my house, it needs a good cleaning, so I guess I better go get started on it. Y'all behave!

I've drifted by the porch several times, but, Edy, I hate to admit I missed something when I followed your directions. I was going to put pics of the new joy in our lives--our adorable great grandchildren, but I missed a step somehow! All I got was the link to the pictures---oh well!

Mariane, I LOVED Sound of Music live! While Carrie doesn't have Julie Andrews acting experience and skill, her voice was absolutely beautiful, and the children were darling. All the singing was excellent, and I thought Carrie held her own with the other actors in it. I noticed at one point the purity on her face as she sang. (Of course, I'm someone who liked her already!)

Our tree is up, and thanks to Amazon Prime--almost all the shopping done--and here--and wrapped.

Husband is ill with sore throat and cold. I hope he's well soon.

Warmest greetings to all, and Don, I hope your Christmas will be warm with good memories, even though Carol is celebrating Christmas in heaven. I can't imagine how great that will be!

Okay, all you cookie bakers (Cookieologists?) out there - I have a question for you.

I bought a package of Toll House ready-to-bake cookies (just for me - not for Christmas). The dough was in the form of attached cubes that needed to be cut apart before baking. No problem...

However, each cube has eight corners - four on the bottom side, and four on the top side. But after baking the result is a flattened, round cookie. How can that happen? Where did the corners go? How does square go to round? It defies logic and principles of physics.

The baked "round" cookie should have four visible corners, and the top side should also have four raised sections.

Don't tell me it's magic. Inquiring minds need to know. :?

Are the corners like pinched snips? If this is the case, the cut corners don't swell in the baking process but the rest of the cookie dough does. So..the corners don't go anywhere. The rest fills out and meets the corners.

Well, made sense to me.

Yikes!!! I didn't hear that, but if it's true I'm not going outside.

Actually it is possible. I read a report the other day that a record low was recently recorded in Antarctica...138 degrees F below zero. :brrr

The coldest temperature possible is called absolute zero, or minus 459.67 degrees F. At that point all molecular motion stops.

Your eyeballs wouldn't move to look at the thermometer, and your brain would be a solid chunk of ice.
