Verna, it was 34 here this morning and with the stiff breeze from the ocean, it is really cold!
I think we jumped from summer into winter, with no time for fall.

Don and Edy, your stories are delightful! Keep 'em coming.

Have you all bought your copy of Verna's new book yet? It's great and a suitable companion for her first book of poems. If you tell the bookstore or Amazon.com that I suggested it, they might give you a 50 percent discount.

But I wouldn't count on it. :superhappy

Love you guys !

My copy of Verna's new book is waiting in my perpetual shopping cart at amazon. :P I'm always finding things I must buy (my house is groaning under the weight of all my wonderful books; I may have to get me a little apartment to turn into my personal library)! But, I've reached a free shipping level, so I will be "checking out" shortly.

It is a gorgeous October morning in Minnesota, chilly, but wonderful to see the sunshine after so many dreary days.

I'll see if I can come up with more stories for you, BeachGrandma. You would have enjoyed growing up with me, since my maternal grandma and my folks were all such storytellers. It's in the genes.

Which reminds me, have any of you checked out the National Geographic genographic project? We're doing it. My Swedish-side cousin Steven traced through his dad to my grandpa's heritage, and my brother Joel traced through my mom to my grandma, as well as a trace on my Norwegian dad and grandpa heritage. Now, I just need to share Joel's results with a Norwegian-side cousin so she can get a buccal smear from her uncle, son of my dad's sister, in order to get my Norwegian grandmother's story. A male, having both X and Y chromosomes, can do with one test what a female with two Xs cannot do!

It turns out that our papa Alexander has the Saami recognized, and he's also part of a 40% (quite high, compared to other mapped areas) group in NORWAY, with smaller southwest and northeast Asian percentages! We even end up being linked with people that include Tolstoy, somehow.

Mom's AndersonBerg side seems to be more generalized-population distribution, at least as I'm reading it.

Since I'm a "young earth" creationist, I ignore the long ages NG gives (which refuse to account for the Noahic flood and its effects on the evidence). But the information is still most fascinating! Read all about the project here: https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/about/

I figure it's a fine gift to give to one's descendants. 8)

You want more stories? I have tons of them I haven't shared here.

Here's one of them...

When I was owner and CEO of my manufacturing company, I would hold a one-hour production meeting every Monday morning with my group leaders to review production problems, schedules, inventory, shipping requirements, personnel needs, etc. At times they would get intense.

I recall one such meeting that took a bad turn.

In the middle of that meeting, one of my female group leaders said, "Ahh...excuse me Don. There is a Snuggle peeking out of the sleeve of your short sleeve shirt."

I suddenly lost control of the meeting.

A snuggle??

And with Mariane and Edy as my advertisers, how could I fail to sell a million or so books? What lovely reviews both of you wrote on Amazon. Edy, isn't it time you got your book of stories rolling--and Don, too? I must admit that one of my teacher friends, who believes in being "brutally" honest said, "I didn't like this book as much as the first one." I think upon analysis, she missed the teacher stories in the second one. I enjoyed writing the "church" ones which kind of hit right back at me--especially "Pharisee."

Mariane, it was 28 here today. I went out to take some pictures of the buds on the rose bush because there won't be anymore!

I made a cup of a hot pumpkin white chocolate drink for my guy and me this afternoon--just hit the spot!

You're not familiar with Snuggle?

It's a brand of fabric softener sheets for the clothes dryer. I don't use Snuggle sheets...I use Downy fabric softener sheets. They look very similar, though.

Thanks for asking, Verna. I couldn't figure out what was crawling out of Don's shirt either. But, now I got a good laugh out of the story.

Thanks for the humor, Don. As they say, "I needed that!" :thankssign

I'm mighty happy the Snuggle issue got cleared up! :?

It happened over 25 years ago. Maybe Snuggle fabric dryer sheets aren't even made anymore, I don't know. Like I said, I buy the Downy product. 8)

Hmmm..."Snuggle peeking out of my sleeve" sounds like I kept a pet chipmunk in there somewhere. If I was one to write critter stories, that one might have possibilities. :book2

Well that explains why we, on this side of the world, jumped from Winter to Summer and missed spring.

I need directions.

Chrissy, wouldn't you know I was eating a chocolate cookie with a mouthful of milk when I viewed your link to Senior Moments? I can't begin to tell you what my keyboard and screen look like! :rolling :rolling :rolling :rolling :rolling :rolling :rolling

Don,that's a great story. I'm glad it was a Snuggle and not something else! John's father was teaching school one day when the kids started laughing. Finally, one boy blurted out, "Mr. Holbrook, your fly is open." Poor Mr. Holbrook, the dearest man you ever met, made a quick turn around, (during which he quickly zipped up), then turned to face the class again and asked, "What was that again, Michael?" But of course, everything was under control and the math class proceeded without interruption. :orangeyes

Edy, my father was one of the greatest storytellers ever! Happily, he passed that on to my son, Johnny, who can keep a dinner table full of people spellbound with his stories, some of which are so hysterical! I love a great story teller. My mother was one, too, and with her great big brown eyes could scare us kids speechless with her James Whitcomb Riley poems and her own personal stories.
How I miss my folks! :cry2

Did I tell you all that in addition to the $200 I generally receive from the "Chicken Soup For The Soul"publishers, I also receive 10 free books? This book about miracles has my story of finding the ruby that my siblings had given me for a special anniversary. Anyway, when the books came I dove right in and started reading, of course. I have never been so disappointed in any book and wish so much my story wasn't part of the book. It's a big book, (almost 400 pages)and is for sale at Amazon.com,all the major bookstores, WalMart, Target, etc. But there is very little about God in it. It's about voices from the dead, mediums, fortune tellers, New Age, ghosts and everything that I stay far away from. I was sick. I had asked people all over Facebook and some other groups on Facebook that I belong to and my entire mailing list, to please buy the book. So now I've written privately to many to tell them it is not about God at all and I advised them not to buy it. I was going to give away several of the copies I received free but now I plan to dump all of them in the garbage. I feel bad about it because I did earn some money from the publisher, but I can't have anyone feeling I am endorsing the book because I'm not. I did receive an Email from a man in Saudi Arabia telling me how much he enjoyed my story, so I pray that some good will come out of it.

So much for that. Onward and upward, I say. Love you guys.

Years ago when I was attending the U of M, I took a philosophy course as an elective. (I hated it!)

On the first day of class, the middle-aged, slightly pudgy, female professor walked into the room wearing a classy, dark brown pants suit. She set her lesson notes on the desk, then turned around to remove her jacket which she placed on the back of the desk chair.

Then, she turned around and began to address the class. Unknown to her, the front zipper of her slacks was wide open revealing her pink panties. Her excessive tummy poundage caused the zipper opening to spread wide to the max - probably placing serious stress on the waist button. No one in the class dared to say anything.

At one point, she glanced down to her notes and noticed the exposure problem. Without any detectable change in her facial expression, and without missing a beat in her lesson presentation, she sat down behind the desk and began to fumble with her zipper without looking down even one time. Her eyes were fixed on the straight-faced students.

After a few minutes the problem was corrected. Through it all, she continued teaching as if nothing was wrong. She handled the embarrassing situation very well.

Nancy Drew checking in - I have been on a treasure hunt!

This music has been driving me crazy, wanting to know what it's about - from an album I ordered from Israel, with only Hebrew on the label! The only words I could make out in the singing were "olam" and "shanah," both having to do with time. But, everything else was in the dark.

I decided I would try to find a link to send to an old Jewish friend, so he could tell me what the words meant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT0zzd9D ... E001C3872E

How did I find the youtube link? My Nancy Drew alter ego discovered a weblink in small print hiding on the CD label, which took me to: http://www.musicfromisrael.com/pc/Hat-B ... +-+3CD+Set

I discovered the name of the singer and a title that I could read.
Kmo She At - Doron Mazar

So, I searched for that on YouTube and found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHLGkfJ3 ... E001C3872E
And then I looked around to see if I could find a better rendition, hence the top link of a decades younger Doron Mazar (which sounds more like my CD).

But, I still hadn't found the lyrics in English!

Somehow my search led me to a French (original source?) version, but since I studied Spanish in college, not French, I was still in the dark until I discovered a French/Vietnamese video that - hurrah! - told me something in the pictures. It must be about family memories:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2y-P1nC ... E001C3872E

And, finally this link which included English in the subtitles:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoarXEgL ... &index=131

Voila! 8)

...the video of family memories mentions Warsaw, which added to the photos, more than hints at the Holocaust. That, plus the connection to the anguish of Vietnam, will now make my eyes melt whenever I hear this music. How did I know when I went on my treasure hunt, moved by the music and the singer, alone?

If there are any Southern Gospel fans on the porch (I'm a big-time fan), then how about this:

I just found out that my church has scheduled a concert by the Gaither Vocal Band for the evening of March 27, 2014. Appearing with them will be The Martins, The Isaacs, The Booth Brothers, Karen Peck and New River, Buddy Green, and others.

WOW!!! It's at my church!! And, it's only 15 minutes from home!

The tickets are not on sale yet, but I'm gonna get me one if I have to beg, borrow, or steal it!

I have seen the Gaither Vocal Band, the Isaacs, and Buddy Green in concert before, but I can't help myself. I just gotta do it again.

Omigoodness, Don. Be sure to go early because it will be packed out! I'd give a lot to attend one of their concerts. Is your church that large? Usually they only accept invitation to large churches because the crowds are overflowing.

Let us know all about it, OK?
