When my brother and sister-in-law, David and Becky, (who celebrated their 10the wedding anniversary on Friday!) were hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, David had to go back to sign a log book, or something, and Becky was sitting on a rock/boulder at the side of the trail waiting for him. A few buzzards started circling directly overhead. At one point, she stood up, started waving her arms, and said "I'm not dead!"

FYI - This will help keep the buzzards at bay:

Advices from An Old Farmer

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled.

Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.

Don’t judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life… Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.

Don ‘t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.

If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around..

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

Most times, it just gets down to common sense.

Some wise advice, Edy, :) and Don, you do write well. The experiences might be real, but you present them with a special creative twist.

I've been working on corrections for my book as I have it from my granddaughters--getting ready to publish.

So glad for fall days to be lurking!

Had to pass on your thoughts for the day, Edy. Too good to keep. We've had some beautiful weather, absolutely lovely. Glad you are experiencing it too.

Allison, I forgot to tell you that I really enjoyed your family story. We have a hawk that sits atop our bird feeder and thins out the squirrel population. I don't want to see him grab them, but I don't mind that they're gone.

I'm thankful for a good doctor's report from a procedure for me last week and for a cortisone shot for the bursitis in my hip and for a good report from a doctor's visit for my husband. After his visit there this morning, we had a great breakfast at a very reasonable price. Hmm reading back over this, sounds like we might not be young-uns!

It's a dreary, dreary day, but it's cheerful in our nest! Hope you're all having a good day.

Verna, I'm so thankful for that good report. That had to be an anxious time for both ofyou. Once again, God has come through for you and Leon; and you, along with Leon are always quick to give God all the praise and glory. You're such a precious friend and I love you so much.

Don, that was a funny story about the birds. BTW, I have a friend who lives in Buzzard's Bay up in New England. I've been there a couple of times. Beautiful area of the country. :clap

Edy I loved your list, especially the "upstream" one. Giggle :superhappy

Click on the link below, PLEASE, and let me know your score. I played FOREVER and I still didn't score. :(

I got a 57 score, BeachGrandma. But, I misunderstood the directions. :( I forgot that a strike in bowling isn't the same as a strike in baseball. But, when I realized what I was supposed to do, I actually managed to get a hole in one!!!! :P Remind me, is that what a strike is, knocking down all the pins on your first pitch.

Mariane, I don't dare try another. I've been seeing today just how uncoordinated I am with Google's birthday game! If I got it all together, I wouldn't know where to put it! Thank you for your sweet words!

Hi. Just stopping by to brag a little. When we were camping on the North Shore of Lake Superior in northern MN this summer, I heard my son singing a song I had never heard before. Turns out he wrote it. This week he finally put it on YouTube.

"We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners."

You have wearied the LORD with your words.
“How have we wearied him?” you ask.
By saying, “All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased with them” or “Where is the God of justice?”

Joanney, thanks for alerting us! A lot of thought went into those lyrics, I can tell. I posted a comment for him.

Thanks, Edy. He does not play any musical instruments, although he has played around with the harmonica. He will tell you his voice is his instrument.

We need more voice instruments! Sometimes in church, I long for all the accompaniment to drop off so I can hear simple melody and harmony of the voices echoing to the rafters!

Okay, I have questions for all the chefs on the porch.

As many of you know, I often watch the FoodTV channel. There is one thing I see done often that bugs me.

When finishing an entree or dessert, why does the chef drizzle sauce, gravy, chocolate, or whatever around the plate? Yeah, I know they call it artistic presentation, but who made that determination anyway?

Why is that presentation considered desireable? I personally wouldn't want liquids slopped all over my plate. It looks like the chef dragged something off the plate, and forgot to wipe away the skid marks.

Then, sometimes they will scatter green twigs or other leafy things on top of the mess. What's up with that? I'm sorry, but they won't cut it as a vegetable serving or salad.

Either drizzle the sauce, etc. over the entree, or pour it into a small dish (plastic cup) so the consumer can use it for dipping if so desired.

Who wants to see good food served on a messy looking plate? To me, a clean plate is good presentation.
