Often times when we think we are having a bad day, we find out there are others who have it much worse. This is what I learned yesterday...
In late June a friend who we see only about once a year, but have known for 45 years, found out he had cancer that is present in his colon, kidneys, and lung. That is a massive spread from the original site...wherever that might have been. Note: He had "successful" treatment for prostate cancer about 8-9 years ago, but that might have been the point of origin for the current cancers.
On July 3rd while waiting to be admitted into the Mayo Clinic for the new cancer surgery, he was helping a friend launch a large boat. Something went terribly wrong during the boat launch. Somehow he got his leg and foot caught between the trailer frame, the boat, and the wheel while the trailer was being backed into the lake. His leg bones between the knee and ankle were crushed, plus, three bones in his foot were broken. Only flesh and skin were keeping his foot attached. He had emergency surgery which required a stay for several days at a local hospital. Healing will take months or longer, plus PT.
Two weeks ago the Mayo Clinic admitted him for the major cancer surgery, which was finally done last week. I don't know any more except that he needs the Lord in his life, too.
He wasn't just having a bad day...he had a bad 4 weeks.
