SPAM STORM

Postby RedBaron » Thu Aug 25, 2016 11:56 am

Yes, we are aware of the Spam Storm that has hit. There are, at current, 6 pages of spam posts.

The accounts have been noted and will be removed ASAP.

I was editing out links and locking/reporting them, but it was too time consuming. So please just ignore them and they'll be gone soon.

Hi Shari,

There were over 1,000 just this morning. You got it right when you said "spam storm".

I also changed the system back so new people must be screened by me before access. It had been changed to allow access by verifying an email, but not now.

Thanks for all you did and do.

Blessings, Mike

Hi Mike & Bea and Sherri - It looks like they're back. I'm showing 1000+ "new posts". :(

It looks like that may have been a "shadow" or something, because I'm not seeing anything right now.

That was totally insane. I've never seen that much spam at one time before.

I checked, when I click "Unread Posts", it's showing the post titles, but if you click on them, the posts aren't there. Clearing the cache should make them vanish -I hope lol.

Cat, I had 20 pages of new posts, but when I started clicking on them, they didn't show up. It said the page doesn't exist, so hopefully, it's like Shari said, but it's always good to point them out if you see them. Man that is totally crazy!

Okay, Mike has banned the members, and the posts have been removed, but all the headers are still there. I don't have any way to get rid of the posts now. Not sure what we can do about that.

This has been SO weird. I guess I should have deleted all the posts at the time, before the members were banned, just leaving the links to the profiles. I even tried deleting the cookies, hoping that might wipe them out.

Fixed now, thanks to a little auto-pruning.

Worst spam attack I've seen in a very long time.

I don't think I've ever been so happy to see only four "new posts". Thanks mods and admins for tackling this spammer's attack! In this day and time, nothing surprises me anymore. Except sometimes God. I'm still flabbergasted by how he answers prayers sometimes. :bow

I'm just wondering if the "storm" caused by spammers had any impact on or access to personal e-mail addresses. I just received an e-mail from a "Mike" that had the subject of one of the posts: "What, Me With Cancer?" I didn't open the e-mail because usually any notices of new post are identified as coming from Faithwriters, not a Mike.

:D Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference, if any, between a Spammer and a Hacker?
