Testimony and Hello!!!

Postby Shething36 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 5:48 pm

Personal Testimony
My name is Fatima Atabey, and I am a Christian saved by the blood of Christ. I suffer from
codependency and overeating but,Christ helps me celebrate my recovery everyday. I grew up in a very Christian home but, it was a very poor one at best. My father and mother divorced when I was just two years old. My father took all five of my half-brothers,and I remained at home with my brother, Freddy, who was from my mom’s first marriage. My mother raised us as best she could but, I was taught never to waste or take gifts in life for granted. So I was led to believe in life that if you did everything that was expected of you, life would be grand. I learned very young that this was not true
and my faith would be tested all my life.
I was in an automobile accident at the age of nineteen, and I diagnosed with Lupus or systematic
vasculitus. It was a long and difficult struggle, and when I turned to God for the first time in my young adult life. I started college, and took care of my disabled mother. I had good communication with my father and the rest of my family. Life was good until, I met a young man from high school and, I believed I needed him so much in my life. I started going down hill in my clinical psychology program at the University of South Florida. We started drinking and partying a lot, and I was not an alcoholic or drug Addict. He was, and the more I stopped using; the more he used. One night, I got fed up and spent the night with a friend from my church. I got pregnant, and I was so embarrassed that, I stayed with the man that beat me and used drugs. I had known, Danny Compare since I was fifteen. He convinced me being Pentecostal and living for Christ was not for me. He told me that if I stayed with him that, he would change. So I watched, as the father of my child flew to Jamaica to be Baptized and moved here to start his ministry. We kept in communication of course but, he returned to his girlfriend.
So I stayed in an abusive relationship with Danny for almost eight years. I tried to leave him but, I never could. When we moved here, I had a second child. Things were just getting so difficult that, I had to go back to church. I needed God, and after two orders of protection. Danny left me with uterine cancer, a baby, and my kindergarten age son.
Anita Marshall, a family friend called me and asked me if I was too over qualified to step down to a assistant nursing position. Well, I never got a job with the state of Tennessee, and I needed anything. She said after a year, we could get me in the Administrative program or as her assistant at Sun bridge. I did that for five years until, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I prayed about it, and the first Christmas I had off from Sun bridge in all that time was when they put me on administrative leave the day before Christmas Eve.
I used up all my income tax money, and moved in with church family. During one of my stays in the
hospital, the father of my church‘Niece’ was arrested for child pornography, and my children were
taken by the state. I made arrangements with family till, I did everything the state had required me to do to get my children back. And the niece, well, God placed her in my hands to look after.
During all this time, I never lost my faith in God, and I never will. Because I believe if God can put you to it then, he can get you thru it. He helped me become cancer -free, he gave me a wonderful special ed niece to care for and two beautiful children. I believe, they will be home our next court date. But, I have learned to use this free time to dedicate everything I do to the Lord and, helping people who were in my situation. And I believe I can help these women in Sheppard’s Home more then any other person. If you don’t believe me ask some of the women you have helped, if they have ever been in my home. Did I feed them and teach them about God? You would be surprised I think. I am sorry that, I can’t reveal their names. Whether I am hired or not, I will continued helped whoever the Lord puts in
my path.
I figured this would be the best way to introduce my self. I hope you like it.

Welcome to FW! What a powerful testimony. I have no doubt Jesus took you by the hand and lead you here. He brought me here just four years ago and I have been blessed so many times over. We actually have quite a few people here who battle chronic illnesses and overcome cancer. It's amazing what God can do.

I think the biggest blessing I've received is the friends I've made. I didn't think it was possible to have such close friends from all over the world. I talk to many on a regular basis. Next is having my stories published or being ready to publish. Seven stories won an Editor's Choice in the challenge and my testimony will be in the soon to be released Triumph Over Trials anthology. I also self-published my first picture book, which because I am a platinum member, the book can be found on the site's store. I have also received countless editing jobs from contacts from FW.

FW is an awesome site, but can be a tad overwhelming because it's so big, but here are some tips for you.

The biggest draw to FW would be the writing challenge. Do you know about the thread Toss a brick? It's a great opportunity to ask for some honest feedback on your piece. There are four quarters each year with ten topics in each one that are related. While you can write in any genre like poetry, children's books, Biblical fiction, devotions, testimonial, and even sci-fi, fantasy and romance, you just need to make sure the story is on the topic and suited for a Christian audience.

One thing the challenge does is encourage me to think outside of the box. One of the best advice I ever received was once you see the topic, jot down the first five things you think of, then throw them away because it's likely what everyone else is thinking of too. If you really feel drawn to that idea, try to tell it from a fresh POV (point of view)

The word count limit has helped me learn to tighten my writing up quite a bit. The deadline has also helped me on my procrastination. I still wait to the last minute, but am writing on a more regular basis. There is also some excellent reading material there. I try to read and comment on every piece, though lately I haven't been able to do that as often as I would like.

FW is a great place to meet other Christians and writers. I also think it's awesome because there is people with all kinds of experience here from having published book to having never really written much at all. People here are great encouragers and willing to share their knowledge with others. The Open Forum is a great place to ask questions about writing and publishing.

You also can find a wealth of info and a variety of people on the boards. It's also a great way to make friends. A great place for writing tips can be found at Jan's Writing Basics. It might be a bit overwhelming to post at first, but I'd urge you to bite the bullet and jump in. Jan is wonderful at giving invaluable feedback to everyone who tries her thread and posts their "homework." Actually this week she is doing a lesson on writing on topic. Pop in and don't hesitate to jump in on the conversation. Jan is quite good about answering everyone who leaves a post.

Also The Water Cooler is a great place to meet people. They have topics that range from regional areas to just popping in to say hi. Another great place to go is Prayer Requests. It's wonderful to be able to request prayer and to lift others up in need.

Fw is much like a family. There is something for everyone. The people encourage, support, and love each other. Welcome to the family!

I hope I gave you some places to start. The site is huge and there are so many wonderful things here. You may want to check out the FAQ thread as that may answer many of your questions.

Have fun exploring, jump into conversations and don't be afraid to ask any questions. :welcome
