First time

Postby cassmar » Tue Mar 05, 2013 12:04 am

Hi, this is my first time in this or any forum, so I hope I don't hit too many wrong buttons. I've included an article I wrote recently in response to the current Blog Contest. I'd love to hear your feedback. In fellowship. Deb.
WHO’S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR?
Written by Deb Rutter
Do you expect me to believe that? But that happened in the dark ages! I can think for myself! I have the right to do what I want! I’m not a kid anymore!
How often has this been said? Okay, let’s look at things from a different perspective. The reason this approach is possible is that you do have a mind, a beautiful mind and you are young adults.
In Jesus time on earth people lived with Jesus, witnessed healings and miracles, heard the Scriptures from his own lips and they willingly died for their faith in Jesus. Why, because it was radical and new? No! Because they not only believed in Jesus but they experienced the Living Word.
To believe in something is to be convinced that something is good, true and acceptable. But if you extend to the next stage; you know. To know something, it becomes real, questions are null and void because you have relationship with your gained knowledge, its personal.
Mathematics is a difficult subject for some, your teacher explains the equation and you believe that it is correct, even if you can’t get your head around it. With sound teaching, perseverance, willingness and an open mind you become to see, you know, you understand. It becomes your knowledge, not what someone else tells you.
Jesus is gentle and all loving, he doesn’t pound down your door, he knocks quietly. Not until you are quiet and begin to listen can you hear the consistent tapping. When you hear it, it is still your choice to open the door or not. You can meet Jesus or ignore. You can talk with Jesus and begin a relationship with him, your own personal experience, when you want to come to know.
Imagine the wind blowing in the trees, how do you know that it’s there, that it truly does exist? You can’t see the wind but you can experience the wind by its effects. You feel the wind on your skin, you can see the dust and items carried as it goes and you can witness the trees bend and swirl from its force. How different would Jesus’ effect on people have been when he walked the earth? Yet people still refused to stop and open the door to the truth, to invite Jesus in. Jesus still walks among us, he’s right here with you now. His Holy Spirit is moving and waits for your invitation. Come to know Jesus, experience relationship with him.
The Bible is filled with every answer to every question. We are not only invited to believe but to know Jesus first hand, just as the Apostles were. Questions are good. “Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. (Luke 11: 9) Courage is not in opening the door, courage is your desire to examine the answers to your questions and be willing to allow Jesus into your heart.

Good entry Deb. Very interesting take on the matter.

You said -
"To believe in something is to be convinced that something is good, true and acceptable."

It reminds me that we are supposed to love God with our heart, MIND and soul. A lot of people forget about the mind part and believe based totally on emotions and feelings. The problem is feelings can be like a roller coaster but facts do not change. No matter how I feel today I know for certain it does not change the evidence, the facts that the Bible and Jesus are the truth.

Knowing the facts has taken me off the roller coaster of doubt.

Thanks for entering the blog contest.

God Bless, Mike

Hello and welcome! I really enjoyed your entry. It was right on target, and you used so many great examples of how you come to believe and "just know" - It will touch many... maybe planting seeds in the process for those who "don't know" Jesus and His amazing love.

Thanks. Looking forward to reading more of your entries.

God bless you~

Hi Deb welcome to FW! I'm not sure how I missed your first post. Your blog article was great! I hope you'll stick around and enter the next contest too.

I'm delighted that God sent you this way! One of the coolest things about this site is its diversity. We have member that are teens and others that are grandparents. Also some are just finding their niche in writing while others have published books. The genres are also widespread. Of course there is Christian categories from devotionals to Biblical fiction, to testimonials and everything in between. We also have some sci-fi aficionados, as well as suspense and romance writers. My favorite genre is children's stories.

This is like a family to me and has given me more than I could have dreamed of when I first joined three years ago.

I've made some dear, sweet friends from all over the States to Australia, Africa, England, Thailand and Latvia. These aren't just casual friendships but close friends, many of whom I talk or text each day.

The forums are a great place to get to know one another. The Water Cooler is a place to chill and talk about anything from the weather to just saying howdy. There are a couple of small groups who love and support each other. The Pacific Coast Rest Stop or the Southern Porch can be found in that section. The prayer Forum offers an opportunity to pray with others or ask for your own prayer requests or share some joys. The Open Forum is the best place to find writing related threads.

The weekly challenge is probably the most popular place at FW. You do need to be a paying member to enter, though starting in January they began to offer Silver members (non-paying) four credits to enter the challenge which can be used in a row or spread out over the year. I hope you have tried that out too. if not a new quarter starts in just a couple of weeks!

I have learned so much from feedback I've received here. Like one example is to not use words like so or very to make your point (which you may have noticed I did just that in the prior sentence, but I consider posts more like talking so I do use words I may not use in the challenge and also tend to run on a bit when I'm talking :o )

I have also learned how to write on a specific topic while still trying to write about it in a creative, fresh way. That's not always easy when there can be up to one hundred people or more writing on the same thing. The best part is it has encouraged me to write more often and regularly. The deadline is perfect for us who procrastinate. If it does appeal to you and you can afford the few dollars each month to become a gold or silver member, it is so totally worth it. Plus there are all kinds of wonderful perks that go along with the Gold and Platinum members.

Have fun exploring. I know it can be a tad overwhelming at first. Feel free to ask any questions or join the discussions. But most of all have fun! :welcome
