My wife & I co-authored a book about our experiences with prostate cancer, and more specifically robotic surgery. Life after prostate surgery is not what most men think it will be. It's not uncommon for men to become deeply depressed within weeks after receiving the news surgery cured them from cancer. What makes the experience more painful and isolating is while friends and family are celebrating the good news and good fortune, the man who had surgery can be so depressed they have either active or passive thoughts about suicide.
To help men and couples cope my wife and I combined our professional experience (I have a Masters in Social Work and years of experience in that field, and my wife in an RN with Oncology experience) with our personal experiences to write a book to help couples cope with their new life following prostate surgery.
Book Title: I Left My Prostate in San Francisco-Where's Yours?
Subtitle: Coping with the Emotional, Relational, Sexual & Spiritual Aspects of Prostate Cancer.
The book is published by WestBow Press and will be available within the next 2-3 weeks in hard cover, soft cover, and E-book versions.
Now it's time to move from writing to marketing. We are fortune in that our local news paper the Modesto Bee is doing a feature story the week our book is released about our book and on-line ministry at whereisyourprostate.com. Only time will tell whether that story helps book sales and our ministry.
