Week 5 Topic - OMNISHAMBLES

Postby Deb Porter » Thu May 01, 2014 9:54 pm

Hi there Challengeers.

It appears a few people are already feeling like this  when it comes to this week's topic. However, it's not as scary or impossible as it seems. It was, in fact, the Oxford Dictionary Word of the Year in 2012 (if I have my facts correct). This week's topic is:

OMNISHAMBLES
http://www.faithwriters.com/writing-challenge-intro.php

Clarify the topic here: http://bit.ly/1kKTDfN

In a nutshell, though, it is this:

Image

I suspect we have all had the odd omnishambolic day. LOL. We have probably been involved in organizations and events at times that have had a touch of the omnishambles about them too. An example would be something like:

"For real. The whole school fete was an omnishambles. Apart from the rain, which we couldn't do anything about, the fete organizer (you know Kate, don't you?) hadn't bothered to contact anyone about providing cakes, and they never confirmed that the grounds would be free on that date. Even worse, Suzy, who was supposed to get the lucky dip prizes and arrange for the stalls to be set up, forgot. I mean, seriously, can you believe it? She flipping forgot! So we all rock up, with the kids, expecting to have a fun day at the fete, only to find the fete had been shifted to the school hall, and the highlight was Suzy making balloon animals (or something like an animal) and a soggy sausage on a bun. Oh, and Kate lost the takings and receipts. She said she had them in an empty margarine container under the sausage sizzle table. Good grief. Probably got thrown out."

Got it? A total mess-up in every way. This is a topic you can have a lot of fun with, and I really encourage you to do that. Just enjoy yourself.

As always, you don’t need to use the word "omnishambles” in your entry. However, you do need to show the meaning through your story/poem/article. It needs to be the focus of your entry.

Let your creativity flow and enjoy yourself. Experiment. Try new things. Try old things. Relax and don't stress over it.

Enjoy the process and feel free to chat about the topic here.

Love, Deb

This should provide some great entries! I'm looking forward to reading them, and perhaps writing one, if I can get omni-organised! :D Ellen
