Questions about writing challenge entries and articles

Postby Toni Hammer » Thu Feb 13, 2014 5:44 pm

I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect place for this post. I couldn't quite pinpoint where would be best to ask these questions. Please feel free to direct me in the right direction if this is wrong.

A couple quick questions from a very new FW member:

--Are we allowed to put our Writing Challenge entries in our articles section so that potential publishers may find and use them?

--I have a blog (doesn't everyone?) and am wondering if I can take posts from the blog and post them in my article section or if it needs to be original content written for FW only. I'd be happy to add a line at the top stating "Originally posted on such and such date at http://www.christianmarriedmom.com

Thank you!
Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.

--Psalm 144:1

You can put your challenge entries into your article section as well as any material written for your blog (and anything else that you have written and still own the rights to.)

The entries that you submit to the weekly Challenge do need to be written for FaithWriters though.

Happy writing! :D

You may post your Challenge articles in the regular articles section ONLY after the weekly contest is over. You don't want your name to be known before the judges pick the winners, as they do that without knowing who the writer is. After the winners are chosen, then you may post it in the regular articles section. :thumbs

I see you got your answer. Something you may want to be aware of is if you submit anything you have posted on FW or even in your blog, it is technically considered published and some places won't accept previously published pieces. Of course the answer to that is take any comments that you agree with and tweak your piece some more. After all it is practically impossible to think of, write, and edit a piece in just one week, or if you're like me and wait until the last minute... Well it makes it even more difficult.

Many people, especially between challenge breaks will work on perfecting their articles,

Don't ever be afraid to ask.

The results for At Wit's End

Postby Francie » Thu Feb 27, 2014 12:56 pm

I just went in to see the results for At Wit's End and wonder what is going on. I believe I am seeing some entries in the Advanced level that weren't there before? Am I seeing things? Also, It looks like a couple of winning entries are sharing the same 1st place, 2nd place, etc. Oh well, It all has me scratching my head but it is fun just the same.

I'm not sure about pieces that weren't there before, the order gets switched about after judging so that might be why it seems like there are more. Before the names are revealed they are in the order they were submitted, but once the winners are announced it's totally random.

As for having 2 third place winners, I would guess there was a tie. It used to happen in the lower rankings, but I haven't seen it lately.

I hope that answers the questions. :D

There are no ties ever in the top five. Where is the problem? Can someone point me to it?

Francie, thanks for pointing this out, and thank you, Shann, for pointing me in the right direction.

The winners are definitely as they are shown here in the forums. I am guessing there was a bit of a glitch when the winners were being copied over to the winners page at FaithWriters. It looks like an old winner may not have been deleted when the new winners were being copied over them.

Thankfully, the correct winners have the correct rosettes on their actual entries, so that's good. As for the archive list (the previous winners page), I think that's pretty much set in concrete once it goes public. I could be wrong and the system may have been upgraded to make changes possible, but I don't think so.

[edited in by Deb] Oooh ... quick update. I've let Bea know, and she has replied already to say that Mike is on it and should be able to fix it. Yay!!!! :superhappy

Sorry for the confusion (and to the 2nd and 3rd place winners for Level 3).

All fixed. Mike has performed his "magic" and the FW winners list for Level 3 is now as it should be:

Thanks again for pointing this out. Never be afraid to ask about something that seems a bit screwy. We probably haven't noticed it, so you will be doing us a favor. Occasionally, we may not be able to do anything to fix it, but 99% of the time, we can.

Yesterday I submitted a Challenge article. I think there was a message to say it was submitted, but to check later to make sure. I don't know how to check to see if the submission went through. It's called Wilberforce and it is for Deep End. How do I check to make sure it in the pipeline?

Hello Franabelle.

Wilberforce is definitely in the list.

If you are ever unsure, just send me a message via the forums. I'll check for you.

Deb,

Thank you, thank you. I worked hard on Wilberforce and I wanted to make sure everything was okay. I can't tell you how delighted I am to have found Faithwriters. I have a lot of devotionals I have written and it takes a long time to send out queries and wait for an answer. Two of my free articles have been picked up for church bulletins. Very exciting for me.
