Your Opinion Please

Postby Fullheart » Fri Feb 01, 2013 8:16 pm

Wow, I had to re-register to get into the board. Formerly JCinmyheart. Now Fullheart.
I have a question for those who have been submitting in the challenge for some time now.
Do you think it makes a difference when a piece is submitted as to how it will rank? My reasoning is this; If I am satisfied with an article already, say Thursday night or Friday and I submit it, might the judges read it, like it, then later in the challenge week, it is not so appealing because the novelty has worn off? :clown Or am I just being goofy?

I was a judge for many years, and the day or time that a piece was submitted made no difference to me. I will say, however, that it was sometimes overwhelming when almost nothing was submitted for the first 5 or 6 days, and then on the last day, there was a HUGE number of submissions. I'd far rather read a piece earlier in the week, or (better still) have them evenly distributed throughout the week.

Ditto to what Jan said. There isn't any difference, but the last minute rush is not fun. Even so, a gem will still sparkle (even if it's submitted in the very last minute).

(But show the judges some love and submit early if you have your entry ready.) :D

I know I'm a bit late submitting but wanted to give some thoughts. I try to read every entry each week and sometimes it can feel a bit monotonous to read almost the same story for the x amount of times in a row. For example, on the key topic, there were so many stories about Jesus being the key. I respect the judges so much that they can be professional enough to score the story based on its own merit. Though the creativity criterion may not have scored super high on those stories, the other criteria could pull the scores up.

I'll pass on some advice from a wise person (Jan) she suggested that when you first hear the topic write down the first three or five ideas that pop in your head, then throw them away. Unless you can think of a unique way to present them, the chances are that many others will think of it too.

I think that was a very good question, I've often wondered about the "time or order" myself. I've been in advanced since I've started and haven't moved up at all. LOL. So, sometimes we can scratch our heads and think, "hmm, maybe this or that?" So, good question. Shann, great response as always, as well as Deb. To be honest, I thought about this just this past week when my entry, "The Seven WOndered" didn't score a nod. I thought, "hmmm?" But, then...perhaps the judges are being overly kind and realize that perhaps I'm not ready to play with the big league yet! LoL. :D

God bless~
