Re: Writer Research
I've done extensive research for more than a few fictional challenge entries, and those are among my personal favorites, even tho they didn't tend to place well as a whole. However, the one I almost didn't enter due to the subject matter was chosen as an EC. Go figure. When I first started at...

Re: Flashback
I didn't realize how many times I used a flashback to help tell the story. But I used them to tell a lot of the story. I don't think I've ever kept it short. Something new to work on. I found two examples to share. The first one only flashes back to earlier that day. The second flashes back a year. ...

Re: Highest Rankings for COMPUTER Challenge
I love this list! Congratulations one and all. I haven't spent any time reading challenge entries lately, but I want to change that and dive into this list. Some of titles intrigue me... as do some of the names I recognize.

Re: Time Management (Guest Post)
I also agree with many of these tips. Self-discipline has been a big hurdle for me. Years ago, I set aside 6pm - 7pm as writing time. It's easier for me to set a time goal rather than a chapter or word goal. I would write, edit, research brainstorm, or read about writing during that hour. I rarely a...

Re: Writing for Children - Picture Books Part 2
I played the fairy godmother in "Cinder Ella", a take on Cinderella, when I was in grade school. I don't remember much about it except I wore a long green dress and one of the boys pulled my chair out from under me in dress rehearsal. My tail bone has never fully recovered. A question: Wha...

Re: Writing for Children - Picture Books Part 1
I've already learned a lot! I didn't realize what an art picture book writing was. Leaving room for the illustrator to "complete" the story is something I never would have thought of. I attempted writing a "picture book" for the FW Light challenge a while back, and I just pulled ...

Re: Head Hopping
Random comment: I just finished the most uniquely written multiple-1st person POV novel. Each chapter was titled headed with the POV character's name (I think there were five), and was like a letter written to the MC (who's single narrative is saved for the twisty ending.) It was fabulous being insi...

Re: Head Hopping
Hi Jan - I appreciate this lesson. I fought against sticking to one POV I first started writing at FW - it was new to me. And I actually liked how you shifted POV's in your story. You made it very clear who's head you were in, and the non-professional in me doesn't see a problem. However, I've done ...

Re: Writing Biblical Fiction
For some reason, I'm attracted to Judas and what might have really made him betray a man he had spent almost every day with for the past couple of years. Shann, Tosca Lee wrote about Judas in her novel "Iscariot". I've read it twice - you should check it out. Tosca writes AMAZING biblical...

Re: Writing Biblical Fiction
I love reading Biblical fiction, but I haven't attempted much because of the "fear" of changing or adding to Scripture. I wrote this one when I first joined FW for the "Lifeguard" challenge but I didn't enter it. (I wrote a different story for the challenge.) It would fit in your...

Re: Finger Pointing
I've found myself editing many a devotion to change the "you"s to "I"s to avoid finger pointing. Your advice on using a fictional person is very helpful. I often want to write a devotion about something but hesitate because I don't have a powerful personal story to tell.

Re: Be a Better Writer--Cliches
I just saw this lesson! My bit of homework for now....
I spotted this possible cliche in your lesson: "you don’t want your writing to slip into automatic..."
I'm thinking on the cliches - it seems they are always hard for me to rewrite.
