Re: Be a Better Writer--BREAKING THE RULES, part 2

Leah, you've posted recently with a few books you disliked. Can you list a few that you've enjoyed, and tell why? Oooooh. Great idea for a future topic. You can hold off on responding, if you want. :) Okay, I won't give away too much, but in general, the books I enjoy are very much plot-driven. If ...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Leah it's nice to see you pop in too. I know someone who is looking for some people to do some editing. Do you all know anyone or feel comfortable doing professional editing. You'd probably have to live in the States because of tax stuff. Maybe. It depends on the extent of the work. When I'm not wo...

Re: Be a Better Writer--BREAKING THE RULES, part 2

Oh, and I just re-read the Divergent series, and she does use a lot of exclamation points. Probably overuses them. But since I found out that she was only 22 when she wrote the first book and 24 when she finished the third, I can give her a little grace. Though her editor should have caught that. :w...

Re: Be a Better Writer--BREAKING THE RULES, part 2

I'm all about breaking the rules in dialogue for sure. I think my written dialogue is probably my strongest area of writing, because I strive to make it realistic. I don't like long descriptions of characters (even just reading them annoys me), so I tend not to do so, and I get comments to that effe...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

I hate ear infections, Becky. Been having them all my life and now I have to take allergy medicine just to keep from getting them. Busy work night last night...still recovering and might need a nap. Have a bunch of things I could do but just might take the whole night to recharge and read my new boo...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Yikes, Shann - when it rains, it pours! :( I went to the Christian writers' conference last month and it was really good; I made a new writer friend and gained some inspiration. Glad I checked the boards...I missed Deb's email about signing papers for her to publish my ECs. Now that things have sett...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Praying for Shann and anyone else in need of God's hand. I've been super busy this last month with computer training in the afternoons once a week as well as working my FT night schedule. Then we went up to the mountains from Monday to Wednesday for our anniversary and to just reconnect, because Rya...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

They're actually pink and blue blankets, to be okay for either girl or boy. JP, yeah, there's no birthday listed. Try emailing Facebook and asking for a different way to confirm your account. Been a fairly busy week with me being inside for most of it. I made it through my first Korean drama....

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

I refer to myself in third person all the time. Pup, you crack me up. You know you can go to that place and say you forgot your password, and they'll email it to you just like any other website. You enter with your email. :tongue So go see pictures now! We did our B&B thing on Friday night, a...

Re: Be a Better Writer--GREAT ENDINGS

I've done both. Some great endings, and some fizzl-y ones. Since I often typed up my Challenge pieces the night before or the last hour or two before closing of entries, I would sometimes be at a loss as to how to end them. One of my favorite pieces, A Place for the Lonely had a nice tie-in with the...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Did you see the photos of Kara's new baby girl! So cute. :) Now I did! Super cute! I did a few deliveries myself over the last two nights - one I accidentally caught, because the doctor was walking slowly down the hall and the patient couldn't stop herself from pushing. Oops. Pretty tired fr...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Shanny, you're hilarious...of course you didn't scare us off. We just had busy weekends. I worked about 6.5 hours extra on Saturday night because they were short, and I was free. Then I played first service and evening service for church. So I'm a bit tired, but not sleepy yet at 3am. I still have t...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

Shann & Rachel, I laughed out loud at your comments about Doctor Who. You just don't know what you're missing. Welcome, Rich, and Hi, Toni! I've been out of FW for most of six months trying to fit graduate nursing classes into my full time night shift work schedule, and it just sucked all the...

Re: Pacific Coast Rest-Stop

:hide *tiptoes into the Rest-Stop to see what's up* Hi! I'm back. Been awhile. My face was buried in textbooks, articles, and academic writing for about 6 months. Done now. I've decided to postpone the Master's for awhile and gain my sanity back. I'm so tired I can hardly do anything but sit back an...
