Re: Be a Better Writer -- FANTASY
Great articles, Jan, both here and the sci-fi one. I wonder where the line is between just fiction and fantasy. I've written a couple of stories where I made up the culture and the names, but nothing in it was incompatible with our real world (such as "The Bridge Between the People" ). Is ...

Re: Be a Better Writer--TELL, DON'T SHOW? WHAT?
Hi - This time I have something to contribute. Shann recommended a great book to me by Amy Michelle Wiley - 'Bring Your Writing to Life'.I'd recommend it too. Amy is great at explaining how to show/not tell. It is helpful. My problem is that it's far easier said than done! Trudy I've heard that Amy...

Thanks! Yes, it's on Smashwords, so is available for any type of reader. I think I have it directly on Kindle and Nook, too.

Re: 2011 Page Turner Feedback
Deb, mine is an S and I don't remember if I asked for feedback or not. But I've done a lot of changes to the manuscript since the version you have, so I'm thinking either you'll want the updated version or just to skip mine. Don't want you to spend a bunch of time on something that doesn't exist any...

Re: Winners for SAVORY TO THE TASTE
Thanks, everyone! Fun to pop back into the challenge once in a while to get a burst of creativity. Congrats to everyone else, too! It started out as a joke that developed into a story during one of my middle of the night strolls. I almost didn't send it because it wasn't my favorite. Goes to show wh...

Master the "Show; Don't Tell" technique
I recently published a workbook, Bring Your Writing to Life , that explains the show, don't tell technique clearly, with lots of examples about what exactly it means and what to do and not do. I've gotten a lot of great feedback on it from writers who have found it helpful. The chapters cover things...

Re: Using a Pen Name
I think there might be a place on the form for a pen name when you submit your entry. Generally publishers ask for both your real name (so they know who you are) and your pen name (which would be displayed in public). There isn't a law about not using real names. I think it can be perfectly fine und...

Re: 2011 Page Turner Entry Tally
The FW newsletter for this month must have been written a few days before the end of the month since it put the tally at 60+. That's a pretty good-sized plus. I still can't believe how big the number is! So cool.
